Caddo Parish Exploring $60–70 Million Multi-Sports Complex
Caddo Parish leaders are in the early stages of evaluating a proposed multi-sports complex designed to attract sports tourism and drive economic development across the region. The concept was presented by Parish Administrator Erica Bryant during a recent Economic Development meeting.
Early Study Points to Strong Potential
According to Bryant, a nearly completed sports tourism study indicates that the Shreveport area is well-positioned to support a large-scale athletic complex. The findings suggest the region could host both regional and national tournaments, drawing visitors from outside the local market.
Project Scope and Features
The proposed facility would span approximately 174,000 square feet, including 80,000 square feet of indoor space. Planned features include:
10 basketball courts
20 volleyball courts
Pickleball courts
Flexible space for wrestling, cheerleading, and other sporting events
Dedicated areas for gaming competitions
Meeting rooms and business spaces
Lease space for events and gatherings
A game center for participants and visitors
The complex is being designed to accommodate a wide range of events beyond traditional sports, expanding its potential use year-round.
Estimated Cost and Funding Plan
The total projected cost of the development is between $60 million and $70 million. Parish officials anticipate that a significant portion—approximately $42 million—would be funded through General Obligation Bonds, which would require voter approval.
Additional funding sources may include revenue-generating components such as naming rights and other self-supported income streams associated with the facility.
Bryant has stated that the bond proposal is expected to be structured in a way that does not increase taxes for Caddo Parish residents.
Economic Impact Projections
Parish leaders estimate the complex could generate:
Approximately $4 million annually in direct revenue to the parish
Up to $20 million annually in indirect economic impact across the region
Officials believe the development could also stimulate surrounding growth, including hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments tied to tournament and event traffic.
Potential Locations Under Consideration
The parish has not yet secured a site but is actively evaluating locations along key transportation corridors, including:
The Interstate 20 and Highway 3132 corridor
The Greenwood area along Interstate 20
A final site selection is expected within the coming months.
Timeline and Next Steps
Caddo Parish leaders are working toward placing the bond proposal on the November ballot, with a target date of November 3. If voters approve the funding:
Groundbreaking could begin as early as 2027
Construction is expected to take 18 months to 2 years
Looking Ahead
The proposed multi-sports complex remains in the planning phase, with several key decisions—including site selection and voter approval—still ahead. Parish officials continue to evaluate feasibility as they move toward a potential public vote later this year.
